We Still Got This
Let's face it: communism is the last refuge of a failed state. Look at Russia after the Czars. China after the Dynasties. Cuba after the mafia. People get tired of being the majority poor to great wealth, and it's not hard to then accept the concept of everyone being equal, in the same boat, with the same chances in life. It fucking never works out that way, but I at least, can see the attraction in the desperation. It's like the bosses I've had that thought they were clever in saying: "Let's do something, even if it's wrong". Communism is very (and always) wrong, but sometimes the only choice people have after a bloody revolution, and it's always all that they can afford.
In America the republican/maga party is making an insane, comical push to paint democrats as "communists". They do this, to deflect from the fact that they are fascists. Both fascism and communism are extremes in the political sphere and not easy sells in successful countries like the US has been throughout its history. When you have extremes, you wisely go for the comfortable middle. For decades now, the US economy and lifestyle have largely been the envy of the world. This is because we went for the middle and kept America the good place where, thanks to capitalism, you had a very good chance at succeeding into a comfortable life with work, entrepreneurial effort or just the luck of fancy bootstrap pulling and education. Well, those days are gone, I think because they weren't profitable enough for the right people. This can happen in any 'ism' construct. It's less likely though in socialism because socialism concentrates harder than the others on helping ALL citizens. Capitalism and communism pay lip service to helping all people because it seems like a good thing to say even but it's just to string people along.
Well, now with the magapublicans the gloves are off and the rhetoric has changed even though they still cling to the accepted notion that the US is the "greatest nation- EVER!" They say this even though they constantly complain about how awful we are. They say that because it supports their contention that one Joseph R. Biden destroyed America in four years, and America dodged a bullet by them also defeating the beautiful black lady who, had she prevailed, would have had us in a war with Iran by now! Nobody wants that! And the economy would be horrible too as her communist ass had no concept of how wonderful tariffs were. Now we have an A+ economy under Trump, and anything wrong with it can be traced back to the communist Joe Biden. Jesus. Make that make sense. You can't, except to room temperature IQ folks.
I've always seen republicans as walking contradictions, partly truth and partly fiction, taking every wrong direction on that lonesome road to power. They are most certainly taking the wrong direction now. Who- in their right mind- could look at America with all its wealth and history of success and think: "It's not enough!"? Worse, who could look at America and think of the wealthiest as a persecuted minority? That's not just idiocy; that's assholery. The other day I read about a billionaire I have never heard of who has spent $100 million in an effort to stop him and his billionaire friends from being taxed. Are these people tired of hiring accountants and tax lawyers? Wouldn't it be easier- and cheaper- to just pay your taxes? You live in a country that made it possible for you to make a billion dollars; why not give a little back that might improve the infrastructure you need to operate, and to make better the lives of people who might be your workers or consumers?
I heard this morning that some of these tech billionaires are building bunkers to live in. That kind of tells me that they are plotting the demise of America as we knew it. They are choosing to live this way in the very near future as if it were the natural course of things. The Rockefellers and Carnegies of their day built grand homes for passersby to admire, and these motherfuckers are building heavily reenforced holes in the ground. That's some extremely fucked up thinking.
So, to deflect from all this, they have their media tell the public that democrats are actually communists who want everyone to be poor and poor alike, because they want to tax the ridiculously wealthy and create a better existence for the masses. Essentially the whole DOGE thing was to save money so it could be better spent by people who know how to spend money better than government can. Billions have been *saved* but the country has nothing to show for it. Where did that money go? Well, I'm not a journalist but I can ask and I can guess though, because I don't have a boss owned by said billionaires dictating: "Don't ask, don't tell". Obviously, it is going into the pockets of the already obscenely wealthy. That's how capitalism works, just now more than ever. Privatize the country. Run it as a business. Keep costs low. Have a responsibility only to the board of investors.
As I understand it, Donald Trump was never a billionaire until his second term here as POTUS. Of course, he said he was after he announced his candidacy in 2015, often saying he would be self-funding because he had "8-9 billion". He wasn't sure. The really cool rich guys like to say they have no idea because that means that the number is so high they don't have time to do the math. Trump had time to do the math, and he still fucked it up. No one becomes a billionaire selling steaks and water with their name on it and starring in a TV game show. Interesting that, of all the things he put his name on, that show starring him was not one of them. You'd think a billionaire would have more pull.
Anyway, we do not have communism now, nor will we have it in our future, after the smoke clears from whatever sets off with the midterms in November. We could be looking at a tanks-in-the-streets presidential self-coup. He'll have little choice with an honest house and senate trying him this time. Hopefully it works out that way. He's old, senile, a bona fide idiot and in poor health. He'll never see prison. Oh, well. That doesn't mean he won't suffer the nutshot of seeing his assholery undone. And yes, winning the midterms might unleash the hounds of hell in his feeble brain, but better people than us have sacrificed themselves to better their lot in life, to be free of worse tyrants. We won't have to default to communism either. We did OK with our version of democratic socialism up until Trump and we can rebuild with stricter adherence to democratic socialist ideals, which are nowhere near communism---or fascism.
