Born to Lose It

When people totally lose it in those ubiquitous 'Karen' videos, I often feel sorry for them. If you take away the verbal content of their videoed diatribe, you'd see somebody losing control of themselves, wonder what it was all about and figure, "Well, that's what they are like all the time! What a jerk!" You rarely get the whole story. You often get just the middle part of the story, the fun part. Facebook/You Tube REELS are big on that. No beginning or end to the conflict, just the screaming and/or violence. I often ask myself, "Why is that little white lady picking a fight with that black guy? Does she not know about weight classes? Age and gender limitations?" Paul Harvey must be spinning in his grave wondering when we will get the rest of the story.

I reserve the right to have a little curiosity as to how this thing got started when I see a white woman of a certain age going after a black man of a more certain age. It doesn't make a lot of sense. It's not primarily a white-black thing at all. Karen's are in the vernacular now, thanks to these videos, but they really are inclusive of all races, genders and ages. Older white women will speak their minds and give you what for! I've seen it. However, there was almost always context, and a beginning, middle and end. Old white ladies are not roaming the streets fucking with people. That's ICE.

People do get baited into conflict. If that's the case, we never get to see that part. There is no cinema verité like they want you to think they are showing. Instead, we get editing to tell the story, without the "How it started" part. It is like if I went up to you and started pushing and calling you names, but only when you reacted to that, would I start filming, I'd sure get some good content! Try it yourself sometime. You'll get lots of clicks and likes! That's what it's all about, right?

I was thinking about this with Pam Bondi's performance in congress this past week. She woke up that day and chose violence. The old men and women in congress may or may not have baited her a little bit, but it was not an on the street ambush. She knew what she was getting into, even bringing a "burn book" of insults and accusations to make against her opponents. She was locked and loaded but still misfired. This is because she's a c-word. The congressional old folks asked simple questions that could be simply answered. Everybody knew she would not give simple answers. But as is often the case in these political inquiries, she was performing for an audience of one. That would be Trump. Bondi knew that if she answered queries politely and professionally that she'd be on the street by the end of the day. Trump and everyone expected her to be a Karen. And what a Karen she was! Oh boy...

Well, everybody saw that. Everybody got the context. There was no missing beginning. And from this Ferrerman, there was no compassion for her, nor curiosity as to what made her lose control. She was born to lose it. She intended to lose it.

What difference did it make when THE DOW IS OVER 50,000!!? Sometimes context is as context does. And now, we get the rest of the story.
