American Acceptionalism

I didn't watch. This wasn't out of any kind of political purity sentiments where I join with others to make a stand against this, that or the other thing in a vague effort to battle the status quo of fuckery. Like Rocky used to tell Bullwinkle, "That trick never works!" Well, maybe it does a little bit, but does it really matter?

I didn't watch because I know I can't stand to listen to that jagoff speak at all! He quit being funny years ago. He's not a real president with policies and an ability to inspire hope in the nation as really only Obama could do. And besides, the State of the Union is never "must see TV". It has always been a dog 'n pony show of the ruling party standing and applauding pretty much everything their guy says. It's just worse with Trump because he's such a natural born douchebag about everything. I heard that republicans stood and applauded when he said he wouldn't even need congress anymore. Did these dumbfucks not realize they were the congress being downsized? Maybe not.

I don't need to watch Trump to be offended. I think some people do and he counts on that. They say he's all about ratings, but what difference does The Nielsens' actually make when all this liar has to do is say afterwards it was "...the most watched SOTU- EVER- like no one has ever seen before" and that it was "beautiful"? He'll believe that, and the slim majority will believe that, and the dumbest of the dumb in Facebook comments sections will believe that. That is their problem. Not mine. I already know you can't fix stupid. For fucksake- if a mope like Trump can inspire you, your mind checked out a long time ago. There is no going back for you because you were already there long before he came along. It's like the expression, "(So and so) is an accident looking for someplace to happen". That's maga. That's their destiny. There's not a fucking thing I can do about that. Some people are pre-wired to be alcoholics, drug addicts or assholes. I can't pretend to know why. It's a good thing to try and help someone, but the big IF in that is if they must want to be helped. Can you think of a single maga who has said anything along the lines of, "I know I should not love this man, and I want to stop- HELP ME!"? No, not a one.

I've written in the past about the 10-80-10 Principle. Basically, 10% of people are very good, 10% are very bad, and the other 80% can go either way, depending on which way the wind is blowing. I've seen it often applied to cops, but it applies to all aspects of society, all dynamics, including families. Obviously, most of us are in the 80 percentile. We are basically good people or not too bad, but we are malleable. The wind again. There has been a need for leaders since the caveman days, and those leaders either took control or had control thrust upon them because others in the group didn't want the responsibility or they wanted someone else to take the blame when things go wrong. Democracy is the latter. We choose people to be in charge. We even chose Trump, more or less. As highly as the asshole thinks of himself, he is most definitely not the guy who steps in and takes over. Despite all the memes of him being youthful, muscled, handsome and fierce, he's an old, demented fuck who shits himself. Really now. Gotta call 'em as I see 'em. I know that I am right about this, but that and a dollar will get me Uptown on the streetcar. The good 10% know this about Trump too, but we're all on that same streetcar. We just don't know how to get the other 80% on the car with us. It would seem so easy, but life never is for most of us.

Except for the asshole 10 percent, we all want to live our best lives. Whether it be because of religious or historical propaganda, we have been told we deserve this. American exceptionalism is ingrained in us, and frankly, that's not a bad thing to believe in. At its best, it means that we are an elite people who, while admittedly rather obnoxious about it, pretty much want others to excel as well. At its worst, it's slavery and misogyny as a result of the all too quiet reflection that to have all the greatness, you have got to keep some people down for yourself to rise or stay afloat. That is American acceptionalism and, yes, I spelled that right. For 250 years we have accepted our way of life as wonderful, despite all the warts and the bullshit. That might be a world record.

We don't have to accept Trump and, judging by his poll numbers, very few actually do. It doesn't matter. You can't tell him or his diehard minions that. I believe the mainstream media looked at him in 2015 and thought, "This'll be fun!" Some in the MSM still think he's fun though he's in the "if it bleeds, it leads" section of journalism now. Love him or despise the fucking moron, every fucking day of our lives for the last ten years has seen his assholery thrust upon us. This emperor has no clothes and a tiny, mushroom-headed dick, but as long as he and his idiotic diehards believe otherwise, it is not so. There's not a fucking (legal) thing we can do about that.

Well, except not buy into the evil 10 percentile. There is still that. At least for now... I don't care if you watched the SOTU or not. I chose to continue streaming "The Mayor of Kingstown" instead. It's a good show even though it's near over-the-top in ridiculousness. So is the Trump shitshow. I like the actors in "Mayor" despite the storyline. I don't like the actors in the Trump show at all. It is beyond-the-top so far that it is the bottom. I just can't accept that. You shouldn't either. But that's just me. Who am I to tell you what to do?
