AM I NOT ENTERTAINED??!!
Why it seems like only last year that this particular Ferrerman was purging streaming services in a vainglorious attempt to be a better, more ironically conservative, unstreamed rebel. What happened to that Ferrerman? Oh, yes- the NFL playoffs in which the Chicago Bears were briefly featured. That happened.
In an era when most people are cutting the cord, I fired up the cord here at The Home for Unwed Ferrermen, thinking that that would enable the viewing of many NFL games. It did, but not in the way that I thought. They are wise to guys like me who think that basic cable still gets you the networks that still (sorta) carry the games. The $20 a month package I got (that wasn't even called "basic cable") was a sad collection of streamable crap from the 70's and 80's, that was a real divorced dad line-up of shit that, if I was still renting kids, those kids would be very embarrassed for me. I know this because I was embarrassed for myself. "Columbo"? Yeah, that was a good show BITD, but I already had that- for free! - on Pluto TV which came with the TV I have. What the fuck was I paying for??!!
I didn't know this, but you don't have to have cable at all these days. Everything is streamed. If I had thought harder about it, I would have realized that Pluto TV came to me via this streaming magic already. That should have been a Columbo clue. Last year I had You Tube TV which was streamed- DUH- and had an excellent lineup and spoiled me on the NFL but was too expensive. It had jumped up to like $82 a month. You can stomach that during football season, but before and after that, it's pretty much Columbo and the NHL. I like hockey but I don't like paying for it. TNT is big on hockey, and I got a bit spoiled on that- but that was when I had the YouTube TV and it was one-stop shopping for all the various networks. You can subscribe to TNT, but why would you? Hockey, sure, but other than that they are all about garbage blockbuster films from the 90's with tons of commercials.
As far as my dumbass knows, you can stream anything and relatively cheaply. The catch is that once you add it all up, you are paying a lot, just like when cabled ruled the airwaves. The Peacock network was gifted to me with my sad-dad cable package and that was kinda OK and gave me some interesting shows and some football. And NBC which owns Peacock, had the rights to the Superbowl this year. Trick question time: Who won the Superbowl? I'm asking because I don't know. Really. It was just a few weeks ago, and I don't remember who played or won. This happens to most Americans weeks after THE game of the year ends. It is NOT just me. It's you too. I think Bad Bunny won, if I recall correctly.
And in pursuit of football, I got Paramount+ which is or was owned by CBS, as far as anybody knows these days. I think it was like $10 a month for that. Again- not bad. Via it I discovered "Landman" and "The Mayor of Kingstown", two shows that seem to be custom made for a Ferrerman. (Rival blogger, Maggie, fucking hates Billy Bob Thorton, but I think he's hilarious! He doesn't take himself as seriously, I suspect, as he did when he was younger. I find that relatable.) Both shows have grit, determination, humor and a high body count. Ferrerman stuff. I have thus far caught up on both by binging and await the new seasons. So, there's stuff I like.
But the rebel in me despises the Balkanization of television by our billionaire, child-raping overlords, because I'm old enough to remember when it wasn't so. I remember when it was the 3 networks and if you wanted to see titties and hear "fuck", you got cable. Life was so much simpler then. Cheaper too.
The interesting thing is that, yes, those billionaire overlords want to control ALL media, particularly the news media, but didn't they pretty much already have that through capitulation? This current feeding frenzy just all seems to be corporate rubber stamping of what has already happened. Millions and billions are nothing to these rich cocksuckers. They don't pay taxes or help mankind in anyway, but they have to spend money somewhere, somehow to make more. It can't all be credit default swaps and bitcoin. And they aren't all stupid assholes like Musk who overpaid for Twitter just because he could, and to ruin it for reasonably normal people, also because he could. I mean, can you really ruin CNN and CBS for fun and profit?
I shouldn't pretend to know about all these mergers and acquisitions. Such fuckery is so far above my paygrade that it is ridiculous. Maybe The Heritage Foundation thinks they will be getting wall to wall programming of Christian values out of these billionaire child-rapers and their rapist frontman, Trump, to control the masses. I'm old enough to remember when religion was the opiate of the masses, but that was decades of must-see-TV and new fall seasons ago. Nothing keeps you from taking to the streets better than your shows. And football, of course.
