Thinning the Herd
White House Faith Director, Jenny Corn, is thrilled that nurses, teachers and talk show hosts, are losing their jobs "for publicly celebrating the deaths of people". By "people" she means Charlie Kirk. She does not mean people like you, me or that guy. Just (for the moment) Charlie Kirk.
Religion has always been about numbers and market share. Numbers equal money, money equals power. Power equals control. Pretty simple math. There's no mistaking that this is a business model, just like selling widgets or whatnots. Obviously, every business wants as many customers as possible. Makes sense and cents.
However, sometimes you can make additions with subtractions, and I think this is the business model of Christians in the US now. Curiously (or not...) it's the same business model as the republican party. When you are not attracting new voters because of your policies being unpopular, eliminate the competition's voters. Make it harder for them to vote via gerrymandering, eliminating mail-in ballots, moving the polling stations, etc. and etc. Addition through subtraction.
Christians used to be heavily into conversion. Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses would go door to door. People at your work might stop you and say they'd like to talk to you about your walk with the Lord or just tell you about their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and hope you succumb. Cost effective perhaps, but not productive. This is why they are adopting the technique of addition by subtraction of their sister company, the GOP.
Basically, they are now saying, "Fuck you, we don't need you. Go ahead and die. We'll be fine without you". Harsh, but kinda just like them, historically.
Let's do some simple math again. There are 330 people in a town. 100 of these are Christians. Of the remaining 230 (a majority), some are Jews, Muslims and 'others', but most are atheists or just non-believers in general. It's a lot of work to try to convert any of them, particularly Jews or Muslims who are generally pretty entrenched in their own beliefs. Similarly entrenched in their own non-beliefs are the majority of the town who think Sunday is fun day of football, beer and sleeping late and napping. Guess what part of town I'm in. Yeah.
If you are a Christian, you can't beat them and you don't want to join them, so what choice do you have, but to eliminate them. Right now, as Jenny Corn delights, the Christians are causing people to lose their jobs. Nurses. Teachers. Jimmy Kimmel. It's punishment for not towing the line. It's a good way to eliminate the competition. If those 230 malcontents don't have jobs, if they can't make a living, they either join or die. And they don't care if death is what it takes. Believe that. That 100 can be a majority, one way or the other. Right now, they are going with the cancel culture they claim to hate so much, to thin the herd of their opposition. No doubt they are prepared to go the other way. Whatever it takes to be the majority, and to rule as one. Yea, verily...
Confidential to you know who you are: I thought you were kinda quiet today! I hear you though. I understand. I know where to find you.
