Message of Love
People say, "I don't believe in God". Could they be a little more specific?
They might be like me, and they don't believe in the Biblical God, the crazed, murderous one of the Old and New Testaments. The one that speaks to Mike Johnson. I'm not believing in that God at all. That's the God of charlatans even though he's based on the book. He's the God of war, famine and general hate, that is presented as love. Let's face it: he's the republican God, the God of excuses for bad behavior because interpreting him is so flexible. He's the God that suits your needs, depending on who you are and how much power you have. No, I don't believe in that God, and you can't make me, but I know you're going to try.
I've long felt, that if you look around the world, somebody did this on purpose. This is above my paygrade, but you have the polar icecaps way up north to regulate the planet's heating and cooling in conjunction with the deserts and the mountains, lakes and oceans. Water is the source of life. This was like the foundation of the planet and someone very intelligent knew what they were doing because it seems to make sense.
Even human beings make sense. I'm serious. We are a fascinating invention of intelligence and emotions, unmatched by any other creature on the planet. Of course we would be in charge. Did you think platypuses would be calling the shots? Someone put a lot of thought into us too, probably more than Adam and Eve starting life and then their own offspring populating the planet! Ewww! That makes as much sense as a fish crawling out of the primordial ooze, developing legs and lungs and walking about. Who did he mate with?
Whatever God you believe in, you must be curious about the intent. I think the God I believe in might be called "the lazy God". This God created all that was seen on earth at the time, then man and womankind and then sort sat back and let things happen. Maybe he split to another universe to experiment there. Who knows? This is a God who stepped back, admired his work, and said, "Let's see what happens..." I like that. The Biblical God says, "Worship me and you will spend eternity with me in my Heaven". That just seems so trumpy. You might as well worship Trump. People do. (Hey- Trump might BE God. He works in mysterious ways and demands that people love him...)
But I digress. There has just got to be more to life than suffering on earth but worshipping a God to live eternity in Heaven. Make that make sense. That's as unfulfilling as predestination. Like, a person might explain in court, "Your honor, I was predestined by God to kill all those people, so, there you go, I was just doing the Lord's work." And the judge could then respond, "Well, God preordained me to sentence you to life in prison, so sayeth the Lord". Check and mate!
A few years ago I came across some YouTubes about people who had died and comeback to earth. I don't think any one of them wanted to come back. It wasn't that their lives had been so miserable on earth, but that their death had been blissful. They felt love and security like they had never dreamed was possible, just an overwhelming great feeling of wonderful. One guy, a firefighter/paramedic who had succumbed to a virus, immediately told the guy in charge that he did not want to go back there. Nothing personal- loved his wife and kids- but this awesome feeling of love was something he liked very much. I believe the man in charge smiled and said something like, "They all say that." That man incidentally, white male, long-haired and bearded, was probably not God, though that's a pretty common assessment of what God might look like. The deceased guy didn't think he was God, just the guy in charge. Well, it wasn't the man's time. He was whisked back to the table in the OR where he came to and a nurse said, "We thought we had lost you for good."
Drive a truck through any holes you see in that story if you want. I don't care. You do not have to believe what I believe. I'm just going from memory with that story, but there was no review, and no questions asked about how much you loved God. It wasn't an application process for a job in the Trump administration. The guy went on to enjoy life. He went on to not fear death, which is kind of dovetails into the enjoyment of life. Don't go out and willy-nilly risk your life knowing it's all good in the end, but don't live your life in fear that you didn't pray hard enough or tithe enough to your church. There's more to this life- and possibly the next- than pleasing the myriad world views of the Creator, to satisfy people on earth. Somebody IS watching though, so keep that in mind. And do your best to behave yourself.
Sorry, I don't believe anyone is watching. Although at times I wonder if we are just playing pieces in a game? Who knows? I agree, a human with all its working parts is incredible.
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily watching, Remember, the man died and got zoomed out into the cosmos and they had to do some checking on his status and then AFTER all that, they determined- for whatever reasons- that it wasn't his time. Seems like more of a bureaucracy than an all-knowing God. There's got to be some degree of control over everything in life- and death- but it doesn't have to be perfectly competent. They didn't inquire about his faith or ask him to defend his life. They just seemed to realize that someone might have made a bureaucratic error, and they had to send him back. Shit happens, even in the afterlife.
