I Saw the Light in Your Eyes

Don't get me wrong, I like Todd Rundgren. I just never saw him as a pop/rock deity like many people do. He had a few hits in the 70's- "Hello It's Me", "We Gotta Get You a Woman", "I Saw the Light" and I like those. They take me back to the halcyon days of my youth, and every day as I get older, I appreciate that more. Great stuff, but not God-like.

It's just that many friends of mine- at the mere mention of his name- would say, "Oh- you mean God!" as in "God Rundgren". Well, noooooo...just, you know, Todd Rundgren...

There's a couple of things I use to judge people in life. Politics and sports alliances are big with me. I guess music might be another one and, with women, spankability goes a long way- but not as far as you'd think. So, let's change that to a few things. Through the miracle of modern YouTube, a few years ago I discovered Todd was a frequent guest on Bill Maher's old show, "Politically Incorrect". I don't recall specifics, but I know I was impressed with his political and social views. I don't know if he had a favorite baseball team. I let that slide a lot. It's not a deal-breaker. Maher is a Mets fan and that is amongst a myriad of poor qualities he has. Don't even get me started on that dipshit that thinks democrats ought to court Elon Musk and Joe Rogan if they ever want to win again! No, fuck that guy.

Todd Rundgren probably wouldn't go along with that. Whyever friends- and even one of my brothers- felt Todd was a rock God or the actual God, may be a mystery to me, but he didn't cultivate that. It was bestowed upon him. He probably <blushes> at the mention. Musicians are more complicated than the rest of us, I think. My own son plays bass and boy, that kid is complicated. Aren't all bass players? Aren't we all?
