You Don't Need a Ferrerman to Know Which Way The Wind Blows

I don't watch Stephanie Ruhle as much as I used to, which may or may not say a lot about the level of my commitment in our very one-sided, unrequited love affair. But when I do watch, I really enjoy her Friday night round table panels which tend to be more free flowing, than the usual cable news panels we're all saddled with in this century. I'm still crushing on her- no reason not to- but I just don't want to reward cable news with much of my time anymore. NOT watching cable news is very good for one's mental health.

Part of the panel discussion last night was about 'bro culture'. We didn't have bro culture fifty years ago when I was a young man. Maybe we did, but we didn't know it at the time. We were just guys partying, hoping to get laid, scrapping a bit and just looking to have a good time before we had to grow up and go off into the world. Good times!

Today's bros are different. Girls too. They aren't having as much sex as previous generations, I hear. Really? Cause that sounds suspiciously like my generation. Some boys and girls were hooking up, but most were getting by on lies and innuendo. If you had a girlfriend, it was conceivable that you were getting some. It was good enough back in the day, to have the rumor of sex going for you.

The following generation though, I remember Oprah talking about how a blowjob was the "new goodnight kiss" of the 80's. That's a helluva kiss! 13-year-old girls were blowing 13-year-old boys after a meal at the food court! Oprah said so!

Today's bros are having trouble relating to women. They're scared of them. Well, that sounds familiar... So, these guys are retreating into a world of Joe Rogan podcasts, MMA, video games and porn. Kids today aren't socializing as much, aren't dating and, thus, aren't having as much sex. At least not with each other.

I have to say I think a lot of that has carried over to older generations, at least on the internet. The girl power" that the panel suggested was a turn off to bros is quite prevalent on Twitter and Blue Sky.

I got to tell you I don't like it either, but it's more of an eyeroll thing (most of the time) when I read some woman going on about how women are great, and men should have their dicks cut off. Damn, that's some harsh negativity! See it a lot though, but usually without the castration.

Both sexes seem damaged to me though. Most men and women have been hurt. I personally had my heart ripped out by Laura decades ago. She ripped it out, stomped on it and literally asked me to kill myself, to spare her the indignity of being a divorcee. She preferred widower. Story for another day. SPOILER ALERT: I'm still here.

I overcame that in time. We all know how love lost is. You think you'll never get over it, but most do, one way or another. All it takes is time and introspection. But in life you are going to run across random people who are going through the romantic misery you once went through. It's like Michael Corleone in Godfather 3: "Just when I thought I was out, they drag me back in..."

Well, fuck, don't get drug back in. Duh. Don't let the angry boys and girls on the internet influence you. They have their own problems and their own fucked up ways of dealing with them. It's a club you don't need to join. Joe Rogan isn't the answer to anything, but how to waste four hours of a day. Fellas, MMA and treating women like sluts isn't the answer either. Girls: being a slut or hating men isn't productive. Stop it.

On the internet, I've 'met' a bunch of women, of my age group, of whom I generally have no idea what they look like but are very attractive to me. (I'm not in love with them. I save my unrequited love for Stephanie Ruhle. This works for me, probably her too.) They have personalities, good minds and senses of humor. These are very attractive qualities in people. Isn't that what we told ourselves we were looking for back in the day? It's what you want to wind up with, right? We all believe we deserve it, we all say we want it, but we don't do enough to get it while we are young.

These bros today aren't even trying. To give up at such a young age and admire Rogan, Trump or Jordan Peterson is pathetic. Good gawd, think for yourself and, if you must heed advice, listen to Mr. Dylan: "Don't follow leaders, watch the parking meters".  It's all right there.
