Mafia Troll

 I don't know why I do the things I do sometimes.

I watched 142 minutes of "Club Random", the Bill Maher podcast, and I did it on purpose because Michael Franzese was on. I find Maher and Franzese to be annoying, but like any car wreck, you have to look. Maybe I like to be annoyed. 

You may not know that Franzese was a former captain in the Columbo Crime Family who left 'the life' when he became a born-again Christian. He got tired of being indicted and he went to prison. His dad had been the underboss so there was a bit of nepotism and there are plenty of gangsters who don't think he was really all that. He was famous for running a gasoline tax scam (with some Russian mobsters) but I have heard he fell into that as it was nothing new. He didn't invent it. He ran it well and made many, many millions. At 74, he's a quite handsome old guy. He has a podcast, makes wine, writes books and does well for himself, certainly in a legal way. No doubt.

But he's an annoying fvcking trumper. I kinda knew that from seeing previous videos where he was interviewed by various usual suspects on YouTube podcasts. There are a lot of gangsters yakking away about the life on YT and I guess that omerta thing was repealed, probably via Executive Order by Trump. These guys are like "The Real Housewives of Anywhere" only bitchier.

It's not surprising that any of them would favor Trump. Game recognizes game. I doubt they respected him much when they were dealing with him in the 70's when he was building and the open secret of construction in NYC was that you didn't build without dealing with the mob. They controlled unions and concrete and all that. He was just someone they shook down. He wasn't one of them. I'm sure they're all proud of him now. So, no surprise that a guy like Franzese loves Trump.

But the fvckin' guy hates Joe Biden. Take everything you or I might feel about Trump, and Franzese has assigned those same feelings to Joe Biden. Kamala Harris too. It's beyond the usual troll shit. He goes as far to say that Joe knowingly let in fentanyl because he 'doesn't care about people'. He left the border wide-open because his plan was to make the country 50-state democrat, by allowing the illegals to vote.

OK, that's some generic troll shit. I can't respect that because only an idiot could believe that's possible under our current voting laws. I mean voting laws as they were up until this evening. Who knows what they might be tomorrow or next month. 

I can't respect that whether it comes from Floyd Frimple of Appalachia or an educated, reformed gangster. It's stupid. He then went on about Hunter's laptop and managed to accuse Biden of "treason" without any specifics beyond claiming Joe "sold the office of Vice president". He also went on to blame Nancy Pelosi and her daughter for J-6, as well as the 20 or so FBI informants amongst the tourist-rioters that day. It was a lot of Maga Troll 101. I had expected better.

Maher held up pretty well. Though he's quite full of himself, he knows his politics. He had no fear of Franzese, but to be fair, Franzese is not an intimidating guy. I don't think he ever was. By all accounts, his dad, Sonny, was. He was a gangster's gangster. They called his kid, "The Yuppie Don". 

Franzese seemed singularly focused on talking about his admiration for Trump. I guess that after a few hundred podcasts telling the same mob stories, he was looking to branch out and celebrate the new, old president instead. Oh, how refreshing. Even Maher was annoyed by it. The episode was taped 2 weeks into this new regime, and we are at 2 months now. Oodles of things have happened since then, none of them good. 

I don't expect a guy like Franzese to ever change his mind about Trump. He may be 30 years out of the life now, but he misses it. Just as people live vicariously through gangster films, I think he (and others) live vicariously through Trump. As long as what Trump does has no personal effect on them, they don't care what he does. They really don't. And that is the problem. THAT is the real Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Flipping the Script

 When it comes to TV and movies, I don't like to know how the sausage is made. But full disclosure, I find it hard to resist the inside info when it comes to "The Sopranos". As luck would have it, there are a bazillion YouTubes about all things Soprano.  It's kinda crazy to me that people that people spend so much time gossiping about a fictional show. "Why did this happen? Why that? How 'bout this theory?"  Shit like that. My first thought is always, ask the writer. It's their story. It's not ours to add anything to it. It's not "The Bible", after all.  Story arcs are different though. I've been seeing a lot of a particular arc in The Sopranos that always befuddled me. Marisa Tomei Likes Me

Marisa Tomei- I always thought I had a chance with her... That's a line from a "Seinfeld" episode where George Costanza said that about Marisa Tomei, and then as the script would have it, he met Marisa Tomei and they hit it off. Every mention of Marisa Tomei on the internet- if I see it- I will post it. Seinfeld fans get it.  So, I did that last week on a Facebook post and quickly got a like from Marisa Tomei. This caused me click on the profile, curious as to whether the actress was on FB or if it were a fan page.  I've gotten likes from actors before. Some I think were legit because they were just likes. Some of the cast of the "Sopranos" liked a post I made about the controversial ending of the series, where it suddenly went black- and that was it. Series over.
