Only in America

Trump is a salesman. Not a very good one, but his skillset screams of the used car huckster he would have been in life if he had not been born into wealth. Think of a guy like a Herb Tarlick from WKRP in Cincinnati with his garish suits. You want people to notice and remember you. They may not remember your name, but they will remember the plaid sportscoat and green pants. Trump's the worst dancer this side of Elaine Benes, but he regularly breaks out into his double-jerk off dance to the Village People's "YMCA". He must know it's a gay anthem. He must not care. It's his song and his dance. He does like to co-opt things. 

No doubt Trump is the least presidential of all presidents ever. He had zero political bonafides, never having been elected to any office. Spin is everything in politics and this was made to look like a strength rather than a weakness. The republicans had been pushing the need for a businessman in the White House; someone who understood spending and had made a payroll and had employed people. They were looking for a CEO, clearly one to represent their CEO donors. I don't think they were looking for him after Reagan. They seemed to grudgingly like Mitt Romney because he was a rich, successful businessman, though I don't recall what he had gotten rich at. Being Mormon was a strike against him, but he believed in God, so there was that. In 2015 when Trump announced his candidacy, I recall him saying he was "rich, really rich". He was so rich that he wasn't sure how rich he was. He claimed at the time, 8 or 9 billion. This was interesting given his 6 bankruptcies and his many failures at selling steaks, vodka, water, a university and all sorts of stuff not sold by any billionaires you ever heard of with their name on it. He was fresh off a stupid TV show that curiously, didn't have his name on it, though it starred him and kept him in the public eye as a big wheel.  

His supporters like to say now that he gave up his comfortable life as a billionaire to save America from its path of destruction, but there was never a mention of his giving up a comfortable billionaire life to host a stupid game show. I think he did it for the paycheck and in hopes of winning an Emmy. He still wants an Emmy even though he's in no position to get one.

The powers that be in this country, perhaps wisely dragged him out of his mediocrity of wealth and fame because they saw something in this garish clown that they could profit from. They saw a chance for them in the 2016 election that they absolutely did not have in running a Romney again or a Cruz, Rubio or Rand Paul. After 8 good years of Barack Obama, nobody they had was going to beat Hillary Rodham Clinton. Only a 'fresh' face like Trump could even get them close enough to cheat. It had to be Trump. The selling point would be that he was an outsider, unadulterated by deep state politics. This countered Clinton who was the deep state having been married to a president and the US Secretary of State. Trump was portrayed as a gifted beginner who was so rich that he could finance his campaign and be beholden to no one. Thus, the drain the swamp shit and lies about self-financing. 

Trump seems like an odd choice given what we know now about his myriad proclivities. I recall being on a job in the early 2000's when he was on the Howard Stern show and talking about "what a piece of ass" his daughter Ivanka was and how, if she wasn't his daughter, perhaps he'd be dating her. The electricians on the job ate that up, whooping and hollering about this guy who wanted to fuck his daughter. The right people were beginning to notice him. The great unwashed were falling in love with him. This was seen as "telling it like it is". Honesty. I guess it didn't get more honest than that. 

So, that's how we got him. How the Hell did we get him twice though, and how do we get rid of him before he burns the country to the ground? It seems like an impossible task. This fucking guy lost an election, committed a half assed, treasonous coup, yet managed to escape that and become president again four years later. Hollywood or publishing houses would summarily reject such a plot. There was no plausibility in it. Well, until now. Amazingly, Trump is still portrayed as brilliant negotiator, strategist and a tough, two-fisted man. He is a multibillionaire (for the first time in his wealthy life, I believe) even as he screws up left and right in his presidential job and has ZERO legitimate accomplishments in either term as president. And he still breaks into his double jerkoff dance moves to his song while being portrayed as a tough, fearless man amongst men. The incongruity of that really frosts me and it may still induce cringe in his handlers, but stupid people and the media fucking love it! Whoever is ultimately in charge of Trump (definitely NOT him) took a bargain basement rich guy of extremely questionable morals, rolled the dice and told him to "just be yourself". They would handle the rest. Somefuckinghow, that worked. Trump is the personification of the adage of any publicity being good publicity. That never made sense to me until Trump came along. A jackleg coup and vast evidence of pedophilia could barely slow this guy down! Who else could pull that off? No one. And no one ever will. Neither side of the aisle- if we are to have aisles in the future- will allow such a man to exist. Even if republicans pull off their coup against democracy, they will never allow a clown like Trump to rule for them. Trump's the girl you bring to the dance to get closer to the girl you want, the girl you can't have. The girl you don't deserve.
