Three fine, mature bottoms!
I posted this on Blue Sky a few times last week, and because I'm so coy and clever, I labelled it as "adult" so it would be covered up. This means that anyone who saw the photo would see it was 'hidden' and have the option of clicking on 'show' or scrolling on by. To further obfuscate things, the accompanying text was some variation of "These are three of the finest, mature bottoms you'll ever see." Cute and clever, eh?
Well, I thought it was.
Only one person commented though. Could he have been the only one with enough curiosity to dare to see what was behind the curtain? I imagined that folks would click on it and go: "OH! I get it! Those are nice!
These are Revere Ware pans as you might know. I think the two bigger ones are about as old as me. Mom would know, but she passed a year ago. All three were hers. Lot of meals in those gems.
It was a lot of elbow grease and Bar Keepers Friend to bring them back to near their original glory. Decades of use on gas stove tops took its toll. Burnt in spots. Mom didn't keep up with them beyond washing them. Seven kids- you got better things to do than show off your pans. People might think you never cook!
I'm retired though. I can scrub away on pans whenever I see fit. Actually, the brunt of this work was done a couple-few years ago when I was mom's caretaker. I just need to occasionally spiff them up after use (and I use them every day) and there's not much to that at this point because, as life would have it, I'm cooking on an electric range now. Much cleaner than gas, I have learned.
I'm not the foremost expert on revitalizing Revere Ware, but I pretty much just went at them with the aforementioned Bar Keepers Friend and wore away the burns and tarnish. Now that I think about it, Brillo pads were a big help too.
If you've got pans like these, it's worth it to bring back the shine. It's so easy, even a Ferrerman can do it.
