American Acceptionalism

I didn't watch. This wasn't out of any kind of political purity sentiments where I join with others to make a stand against this, that or the other thing in a vague effort to battle the status quo of fuckery. Like Rocky used to tell Bullwinkle, "That trick never works!" Well, maybe it does a little bit, but does it really matter?  I didn't watch because I know I can't stand to listen to that jagoff speak at all!  He quit being funny years ago. He's not a real president with policies and an ability to inspire hope in the nation as really only Obama could do. And besides, the State of the Union is never  "must see TV". It has always been a dog 'n pony show of the ruling party standing and applauding pretty much everything their guy says. It's just worse with Trump because he's such a natural born douchebag about everything. I heard that republicans stood and applauded when he said he wouldn't even need congress anymore. Did these d...

What Makes Them Tick?

One of my all-time favorite posters on Bluesky (she finds the best stuff) posted a link about a guy in France who interviewed 200 women for a job for the sole purpose of giving them a drug to make them wet their pants.  This was his raison de vivre.  I didn't read the article (a paywall) but I got the gist of it.  Why are people so fucking weird? What happens to them in life that makes them that way? I presume this guy got some sort of sexual pleasure out of this. But fucking why? Who writes this shitshow called life? I have long been curious about people's motivations. What makes them tick and why do they tock off from the rest of us? They probably don't know themselves and long since gave up on trying to figure it out. They just roll with it until it rolls over them as I assume it did with this Jaque de Peepee. Understanding people's foibles isn't to endorse or defend them, just explain them, good, bad or ugly. Like people who punch down on the homeless probably ...

Service After the Sale of Your Soul

Ever be poking around on YouTube for something interesting and you see something that covers an interesting subject, but it's- say- one hour and fifty-four minutes long? You think, "My God- I could watch a movie in that time! What else is on? Oh, heck- I'll give it 10 minutes. I'm pretty quick on the uptake. I'll get the gist of it." Well, I watched the whole 1:54 minute story of a woman called "Mariah" who was sex-trafficked in a San Diego hotel room in a common, but still unusual way. She and the story were quite compelling.  At the time, Mariah was a very pretty, 19-year-old kid from Missouri who had gone to California to become a model. Everyone knows that story since it has happened a few million times since the invention of film and Hollywood. However, this was San Diego, and she only spoke of a desire to become a model. As is typical, it just wasn't happening right away. She was tired of sleeping on a friend's couch and her own mom ba...

Democracy Dies in the Paywall

Everybody hates paywalls, including actor John Cusack. He is a founding board member of the Free the Press Foundation, who seek to make news that should be available to all of us as common knowledge, actually available to all of us. We are talking here about exposes on government corruption and the like, but we may soon be talking about news in general. That's my fear. It might be his too. What we are not  talking about is opinion pieces. I could monetize this blog, but come on now, why would I do that? Who would read it? Not me. I wouldn't pay. There are big time writers who do monetize their musings and that's good for them. There is a lot of independent news outlets that do great work and need to make a living. I certainly have no truck with that, though, again, that's generally opinion. With newspapers barely hanging on throughout the country, and network news constantly under attack by our gawdawful, belligerent president, how much longer will we have a free press...

Shake Your Sillies Out!

As a Ferrerman of a certain age, I know that I am susceptible to predators and evil doers that prey on others in my age group. Perhaps less than most, but like most people, I'm getting older each day. You do better in the present when you prepare for the future, because the present will always be there. Well, until it's not.  So, I recognize that I am susceptible to social media, particularly Facebook and YouTube, where algorithms have singled me out because of my age. A little advice from peers about growing older is welcome. I'm still smart enough to see through the bullshit politically, and staying abreast of that helps a lot.  I saw a YT the other day of a doctor (as far as I know) discussing the 5 things that are predictive of your early demise if you can't do them. I don't remember all 5, so I'll touch on the worst ones.  According to this doctor, if you can't get out of a chair without using your hands and arms, you're basically fucked. Interesti...

Maggie's Not Gonna Like This

One observation I have about rival blogger Maggie (onethingyonly.blogspot.com) is that on Bluesky, she rarely likes any posts- not even the posts of her rival blogger, Ferrerman! At times she throws likes around like they are manhole covers! As inconceivable as that sounds, it's twue! Little known fact: Young Maggie- an adorable child- was thisclose  to winning the starring role in the nationwide commercial ad campaign for Life cereal. Older non-readers might recall that the ads featured instead, a little boy named "Mikey" who liked Life cereal. See, Maggie didn't like the cereal, and being true to herself, she told the director, "Life sucks!" I don't recall liking Life cereal myself, so I get that. I was more of a Cap'n Crunch and Frosted Flakes ferrerman myself until I graduated to bacon and eggs.  But enough about teasing Maggie. I often forget to like stuff myself. Only, being a good person, I feel bad about it. Maybe Maggie does too. She's ...

Mock 'em Block 'em Robots

A few years back, I was given a 7-day stint in Facebook jail for saying in a comment that a person was exhibiting "feeble-minded thinking". FB considered that "bullying". Really.  This morning, some jagoff I wasn't even posting with told me that I was an "asshole" and that I could "fuck off". Really.  There are no sanctions for foul language, nor for the bullying of the feeble-minded. That all changed in or about December of 2024 after Trump somehow got elected again. Zuckerberg and other antisocial media moguls met with Trump, and I guess, he gave them the OK to let anything go in the comments sections. I don't think you can threaten anyone's life, but I'm not sure about that. I've never done that anyway. Watched too many lawyer and cop shows all my life to get involved in that nonsense. Plus, so far, anyone who has ever intimated violence towards me online has punked out. The Ferrerman home is well defended. It would be a d...

The Most Dangerous Game

Watched a very interesting video about Australian military service in the Vietnam war. People may not realize that our American war was an allied effort, to a degree. It was primarily our show, led by our military industrial complex for our fun and profit, but countries like Korea and Thailand also lent personnel to the cause. This added an air of legitimacy to our being there, but those countries also lost men and limbs in the effort.  But no country struck fear into the hearts and minds of both the communists and the US military command, more than the Australian SAS (Special Air Service). They fought their own war, their way, much to the chagrin of the American command.  There was a mountainous area in Vietnam that was so dangerous that US Marines were forbidden to deploy there. Marines were getting slaughtered in ambushes in the jungle, but perhaps worse, they were being systematically disappeared from patrols, never to be seen again. Their bodies never found. The Vie...

The Lying's Den

I have never found Bill Maher funny at all. He has writers making the jokes for his opening monologue and the bits he does in the middle of the show. He can be  funny and he tours as a stand-up act, but he is not funny at that. I tried watching his stand up once and gave up five minutes in. He seems to be high all the time, and he giggles a lot at his own material, perhaps to signal to the audience that a joke is inbound and they should laugh. He seems to get seriously angry at the crowd if they don't laugh. It happens too often to be 'part of the act'- practiced indignation.  I used to watch "Real Time" not because of him, but despite him. He tended to have interesting guests. They made the show watchable. I gave up watching a couple years ago because I just couldn't with him anymore. You could find those interesting guests in better hands anywhere else on podcasts, which everyone who is anyone seems to have these days. Podcasts are like what blogs used to b...

Born to Lose It

When people totally lose it in those ubiquitous 'Karen' videos, I often feel sorry for them. If you take away the verbal content of their videoed diatribe, you'd see somebody losing control of themselves, wonder what it was all about and figure, "Well, that's what they are like all the time! What a jerk!" You rarely get the whole story. You often get just the middle part of the story, the fun part. Facebook/You Tube REELS  are big on that. No beginning or end to the conflict, just the screaming and/or violence. I often ask myself, "Why is that little white lady picking a fight with that black guy? Does she not know about weight classes? Age and gender limitations?" Paul Harvey must be spinning in his grave wondering when we will get the rest of the story.  I reserve the right to have a little curiosity as to how this thing got started when I see a white woman of a certain age going after a black man of a more certain age. It doesn't make a lot o...

Tried to Get Me Go to Rehab- Fart That!

Nicole Curtis lost her show on HGTV for using the n-word in the most Nicole Curtis way possible.  Whatever she was doing at the time, she exclaimed "WHY? It's the last one. Oh, fart n___". She's always had an odd way of cussing. I guess you might develop that in a TV career, no matter what you were doing, just to be safe and employed. I seem to recall her saying cutesy, midwestern gal 'swears' like "Oh, fudge" when I used to watch her show. She went on to say after this slip, "What the fuck is that I just said??!!" I don't know myself! Never heard that before.  Nicole and I had a falling out several years ago. On Facebook there was a thread about some project she was working on in Minnesota. One of the commenters complained that she had bid on painting jobs for Nicole up there a few times and never gotten chosen. Much to this person's chagrin, Nicole used the paint party approach to do the work and the painter felt duped. Nicole...

When the Landman's Testifyin'

Got into "Landman" with Billy Bob Thorton, recently. I wasn't sure that I would, as some media was saying it was too pro big oil. Maybe. But this is America and everyone is entitled to watch a mom or a nurse get shot down in the street and interpret the events as they see fit. Or, as others see fit for them. Choices. I was once big oil-adjacent, in the 80's, when I tended bar at The Petroleum Club of New Orleans. It was a private club for people in the oil bidness , 99.9% were white and male. Pretty sure I mentioned this before, where I was the Jackie Robinson of bartenders, breaking the color barrier, and becoming the first white bartender in the Club's history. It was a reverse Jackie Robinson though as prior to me, the bartenders (and wait staff) had been all black. The ol' boys preferred the old ways and many of the whites did not like me, simply because of the color of my skin, which was the same as theirs. Weird, huh? New Orleans is a different town, fo...

Complicity is the Motherfucker of Intention

Bibi Netanyahu probably knows more than anyone about Trump and the other principals involved with child rape and sex-trafficking on Epstein's Island. It has long been believed that Epstein worked for Mossad, Israel's intelligence service. Also, Putin's KGB and even *our* own CIA even though they habitually point out that they don't spy on Americans because they are not allowed to. Oh. OK. Who knew there were rules? Who knew those rules were followed? The word is that there are tapes of men raping these young girls. Don't doubt it. Why not? It's kompromat. It can be used for blackmail or coercion of political figures. I think the allure of the island was that it was a safe place to fulfill their horrific desires. In the mental gymnastics required to do something so wrong, they likely felt safe amongst their own kind. Everyone was doing it. They were not alone.  There was also, I gather, financial business afoot on the island. You get a bunch of rich guys togethe...

Fuck the Patriarchy

Let's talk about the patriarchy. Not just us fellas- you gals can participate too. It's OK. MISTER Ferrerman said you could... Something I read or saw yesterday told me that men hate women and I'm pretty sure (whoever it was) it was a man making this statement. It wasn't being said in an angry, Andrew Tate frame of mind, but rather, a plain-talking, "let's face it" manner. It wasn't this person's confession, just his observation. Pretty blunt.  Well, I don't like to speak in absolutes about anything, but I am somewhat of A Noted Observer in life, so I gave this some further thought. To be ferrer, it's something I've often thought of throughout my life, so I had a head start. It may well be true. In relation to Trump and the Epstein Files, about the activities of the Epstein class, we have learned from those files that the wealthiest, most successful amongst us treat women as cum receptacles, necessary only as sexual objects and eye can...

The Olympics, Baby!

Will one of our Olympic athletes give their Gold Medal to Trump? Probably not, but these days you have to ask. Then you have to ponder if a foreign winner might give up their gold, perhaps to keep their country from being bombed or their leader kidnapped in a ridiculous election fraud scheme. I mean, if there is one thing you do know these days, it is that you never know. With Trump, all things are possible. None of them are good.  I fairly enjoy the Olympics. There is no shame in my game in rooting for our American athletes. They represent the US, but I think they really represent themselves and the hard work and dedication it takes to try to achieve their own ultimate goal. I have to believe that is the same for these young people all over the world, in representing their country. They are competing against their peers in the rest of the world. That's sports, baby! Perhaps purer even, as our own sports leagues are pretty damn mercenary with trades and free agency dictating who yo...

Hypothetical Passwords

I write down all my passwords as a convenience for me. I don't think the corporate sites have done this though. One could argue that, yeah, "It's easy for (me) to do that- you are just one person- but WE have millions of customers to bother with! How can WE remember YOUR password??!!" Good question, because evidently you can't! Got a phone notification that Xfinity billed me for $15 and some odd cents and if I wanted to know why, I could view the bill. OK. I did  want to know why, because that was an odd figure. Never been billed that before. Let's have a look. Mr. Ferrerman, enter and sign in please.  Email. 👍Password. No, that's incorrect. Really? How could that be? I doublechecked for lower case letters, got the required character and numbers... Ah, fuck it- let's do a password change. The fun thing about password changes is that sometimes you can change it to the password you have written down- the one they rejected- and that's a win. Other ti...

Accents

Blimey! I remember reading once that there are people in England who could pretty much pinpoint the block that you live on, just by listening to you talk. I thought was a little fantastical. Watching my new favourite (<--- I'm learning British speak) show, the one with the starkers people in the coloured pods, I've learned the Brits are very  interested in their own people's accents. As with anything involving humans, there's a bit of prejudice in play. Like here only we're much bigger. What do we have for accents? You have your southerners, New Yorkers, Chicagoans, "Yinzers" in Pittsburgh- and that's pretty much it. I don't think even most southerners can tell where each other are from, in a simple conversation. I lived in Tennessee and I wasn't aware of any distinct accent's native to Tennessee, or any tells from surrounding hillbilly states. Beyond country mouse and city mouse in the south, I don't think that there are any offici...

On the Street Where You Live

"No Kings" rallies/protests come in all sizes these days. In my smallish, Illinois town they are pretty well attended, numbering in the hundreds, and they are festive and well behaved. Other towns in this general area of northern Illinois have them too, but the numbers might be in the dozens instead. Well, that figures. Chicago can draw tens of thousands because there are several million people to draw from. It's pretty basic math. Maga can't grasp it though. You know how maga is. If you are maga you are either stupid with no purpose, or you are stupid with a purpose. Some are both. Still stupid though. Regardless of crowd size, maga mocks the attendance figures. They wonder why anyone would protest Trump in the first place, and they giggle when only twenty or so show up to do it in Podunkville, Illinois. And the sentiment of "No Kings" is ridiculous to them because, "This country has never HAD  kings and, if Trump were one. you wouldn't be allowed...

The Epstein Class

I always thought rich people were weird. But were they weird to begin with or did the money make it happen? People who don't have money are fascinated by those who do. Wealth almost immediately brings both fear and respect.  Way back in grade school, there was a Greek girl in my class that I'll call Gina because that was her name and, let's face it, if you were going to make up a name for a Greek girl, it would probably be "Gina". Gina lived in a mansion. You could not not know this because she would remind us almost daily, "I live in a mansion!" Like seemingly all Greeks, her dad and his brothers were in the restaurant business. They were popular, very nice places in the western suburbs, which really meant nothing to us kids because we were more interested in candy stores. And it was  a mansion. Italianate, I'd guess, with a corner lot extending from one street to the next in a part of town where the lots were already the deepest. One day, a bunch ...
